If your pelvic floor isn’t where it used to be, there is a clinical option worth knowing about.
Pelvic floor concerns affect a significant number of people across all stages of life, and very few talk about them openly. Bladder leaks, urgency, changes after childbirth or prostate treatment, reduced core strength, and effects on intimate life are all real, common, and addressable. Emsella uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy to deliver 11.200 of targeted pelvic floor contractions in a single session. Fully clothed, no surgery, no downtime. Every conversation about pelvic floor health is handled with complete discretion by a Registered Nurse.

MORE COMMON THAN PEOPLE REALISE
Pelvic floor concerns affect a lot of people. Most don’t mention them.
Leaking when you laugh, sneeze or exercise. Urgency that is hard to manage. Changes after childbirth that no one prepared you for. Concerns after prostate treatment. A sense that something has shifted in your core strength or intimate life. These are not niche problems. They are experienced quietly by many people and rarely discussed openly, even with a doctor.
There is nothing to be embarrassed about. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles. Like any other muscles, they can weaken, and like any other muscles, targeted exercise and clinical support can make a meaningful difference. Emsella provides a level of muscular stimulation beyond what voluntary pelvic floor exercises typically achieve, delivered in a short, comfortable session while you remain seated and fully clothed.
The starting point is a private conversation with a Registered Nurse. Nothing needs to be decided before then.

PELVIC FLOOR STRENGTHENING
For Women
Post-partum changes, hormonal shifts through perimenopause and menopause, and the general effects of age can all affect pelvic floor strength. These concerns are very common and often go unaddressed for years.
CONCERNS THIS PROGRAMME MAY HELP WITH
Bladder leaks and urgency
Leaking with movement, laughing, sneezing, or exercise. Urgency that is hard to manage.
Post-childbirth recovery
Weakened or stretched pelvic floor muscles following vaginal delivery. Complementary to physiotherapy.
Menopausal pelvic weakening
Hormonal changes that contribute to reduced muscle tone and stability over time.
Intimate sensation changes
Reduced tone and circulation in the pelvic floor can affect intimate comfort and responsiveness.
PELVIC FLOOR STRENGTHENING
For Men
Pelvic floor weakness in men is far more common than discussed. Post-prostate treatment recovery, age-related changes, and core stability concerns are among the most frequent reasons men seek pelvic floor support.
CONCERNS THIS PROGRAMME MAY HELP WITH
Post-prostatectomy incontinence
Urinary leakage following prostate surgery. Clinical research specifically supports Emsella for this indication.
Frequent urgency or night-time urination
Reduced bladder control and urgency that disrupts sleep and daily routine.
Core weakness and pelvic stability
Improved pelvic alignment, muscular engagement, and functional stability.
Erectile and intimate function support
Pelvic floor strength plays a role in erectile mechanics and intimate responsiveness.
HOW EMSELLA WORKS
Targeted electromagnetic energy. Thousands of contractions. 28 minutes.
Emsella uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to deliver deep, targeted contractions to the pelvic floor muscles. These contractions are more intense than voluntary pelvic floor exercises typically achieve, reaching muscle fibres that are harder to engage through standard exercise.
During a session, you sit fully clothed on the Emsella chair. The device delivers focused electromagnetic energy through the seat, directly stimulating the pelvic floor muscles beneath. Most clients describe a strong but manageable sensation of muscle contraction throughout the session.
Over a course of sessions, this repeated deep stimulation is designed to retrain and strengthen the muscles, improve neuromuscular control and support better bladder function and pelvic stability. Outcomes develop gradually and vary between individuals.
Emsella is developed by BTL Aesthetics, a global medical aesthetics company founded in 1993. Emsella is FDA-cleared, CE Marked for the treatment of urinary incontinence and is supported by published peer-reviewed clinical research. Results vary between individuals.
What to expect at your appointment
Private consultation first
Every course begins with a private consultation with a Registered Nurse to discuss your pelvic health history, concerns, and goals. Nothing is assumed and nothing is rushed.
Fully clothed treatment
You sit on the Emsella chair fully clothed. No preparation is required and no part of the body needs to be exposed at any point during treatment.
28 minutes per session
Each session takes 28 minutes. Most clients read or watch television during treatment. Some find the sensation strong but manageable; others find it straightforward.
No downtime
Return to normal activities immediately after each session. There is nothing to recover from.
Progressive treatment schedule
Two sessions per week over three weeks is the standard protocol. This schedule is designed to build pelvic floor strength progressively across the course.
Maintenance
One follow-up maintenance session is included in all packages. Ongoing maintenance every 2 to 3 months is recommended to support sustained results.
TREATMENT SCHEDULE
A structured course built around your situation.
The recommended treatment schedule is based on clinical research into HIFEM technology for pelvic floor strengthening. Your specific plan is confirmed at your consultation based on the nature of your concern and your goals.
INITIAL COURSE
6 sessions over 3 weeks
Two sessions per week, spaced at least 48 hours apart. This schedule is designed to build pelvic floor strength progressively and allow adequate recovery between sessions. An 8-session course is available for more advanced symptoms or clients wanting a more intensive initial programme.
WHEN TO NOTICE CHANGES
Sessions 2 to 3 onwards
Most clients report noticing initial changes from the second or third session. The most significant changes are typically apparent four to six weeks after completing the full course, as the muscles continue responding and strengthening. Individual response varies.
MAINTENANCE
Every 2 to 4 months
Maintenance sessions help sustain the pelvic floor strength built during the initial course. One maintenance session is included in all packages. Ongoing maintenance is recommended based on your individual response and lifestyle factors. Your nurse will advise.
PRICING
Single sessions and course pricing
All packages include one follow-up maintenance session to be used within three months of your final session. Course pricing offers savings compared to single session rates.

WHAT TO EXPECT
How outcomes develop and what sensations to expect.
Emsella is generally very well tolerated. Understanding what is normal during and after treatment helps you approach each session with realistic expectations.
During treatment
A tingling sensation and strong muscle contractions throughout the session are normal and expected. The sensation is often described as intense but manageable. Comfort levels vary between individuals. Your nurse will adjust the intensity if needed at any point.
After each session
Mild muscle sensations similar to what follows a workout may occur. This typically settles quickly and is a sign the muscles have been worked. No downtime is needed and normal activities can be resumed immediately.
Across the course
Most clients notice initial changes from around the second or third session. The most significant improvement is typically apparent four to six weeks after the final session as the muscles continue to respond. Individual response varies and outcomes are not guaranteed.
NORMAL SENSATIONS AND SIDE EFFECTS
Tingling or vibration sensation during treatment
Strong muscle contractions throughout the session
Mild muscle sensation or fatigue after a session
Temporary warmth in the pelvic area
NOT SUITABLE IF
Emsella is not suitable for clients with a pacemaker, metal implants in the pelvic area, active infections, or certain other medical conditions. Pregnancy is also a contraindication. All contraindications are assessed at your consultation before treatment is recommended.
SUPPORTING YOUR RESULTS
Staying well hydrated, continuing any physiotherapy programme, and attending maintenance sessions as recommended all support your results over time. Your nurse can advise on lifestyle factors relevant to your situation at your consultation.

Clinical efficacy of HIFEM for urinary incontinence in women
Samuels JB et al. | 2019 | 75 women | six sessions over three weeks
Seventy-five women with urinary incontinence received six HIFEM sessions, two per week. After the sixth session around 81 percent reported a meaningful reduction in symptoms. Average scores on a standard incontinence questionnaire improved by close to 50 percent after the sixth session and around 64 percent at the three-month follow-up. The use of absorbent pads fell by around 44 percent after treatment and around 54 percent at three months. No pain, downtime or adverse events were reported.
As reported in this study, HIFEM was associated with meaningful improvements in urinary incontinence for most participants. Individual outcomes vary..

Emsella for male urinary incontinence after prostate surgery
Tosun H et al. | 2025 | 27 men | post-prostatectomy
Twenty-seven men with ongoing urinary incontinence after prostate-removal surgery received six HIFEM sessions, twice weekly, using the Emsella chair. Scores on a standard incontinence questionnaire improved by around 53 percent after treatment and around 61 percent at the one-month follow-up. Daily pad use also fell. No adverse events were reported.
As reported in this study, HIFEM was associated with meaningful reductions in incontinence for men recovering from prostate surgery. Individual outcomes vary.

PUBLISHED STUDY
HIFEM combined with pelvic floor exercises after childbirth
Chan WS et al. | 2026 | 40 women | sham-controlled pilot trial
Forty women with stress urinary incontinence after childbirth took part in a single-blinded, sham-controlled pilot trial. All received pelvic floor muscle training; one group also received HIFEM and the other a sham version, weekly for six weeks. Both groups improved on a standard incontinence questionnaire and on ultrasound measures of bladder-neck movement. The group that also received HIFEM showed a significant reduction in measured urine leakage on a one-hour pad test. The authors describe this as an early pilot and note that larger, longer studies are needed.
As reported in this study, adding HIFEM to pelvic floor exercises was associated with a measurable reduction in urine leakage. This was an early pilot and individual outcomes vary.
