DERMAMELAN INTIMATE | BIRKENHEAD, AUCKLAND
A concern that’s more common than most people let on.
Localised pigmentation in sensitive and intimate areas affects a significant number of people. It’s rarely talked about, often carried quietly, and frequently dismissed as something to simply live with. At Jay’s Medispa, we treat this with the same clinical care and discretion as any other skin concern. Every conversation is handled privately, without judgement, by a Registered Nurse. Dermamelan Intimate by Mesoestetic is a clinically developed depigmentation treatment formulated specifically for delicate skin areas. Before anything is recommended, we carry out a full assessment.

HOW DERMAMELAN INTIMATE WORKS
Designed to address pigmentation at its source, not just on the surface.
Localised pigmentation in sensitive areas forms when melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing skin pigment, become overactive. The same underlying mechanism is at work in intimate pigmentation as in facial melasma or post-inflammatory pigmentation elsewhere on the body. Surface treatments tend to produce temporary outcomes because they address the visible pigment without regulating the activity that produces it.
Dermamelan Intimate is designed to work differently. The formulation is developed specifically for delicate skin areas and targets the underlying mechanisms contributing to excess pigment while aiming to maintain the integrity of sensitive skin. The in-clinic application is followed by a structured home-care phase, which is an integral part of the protocol and where a significant portion of the gradual improvement takes place.
The protocol begins with a private consultation. No treatment is recommended without a full assessment of the pigmentation, the skin, and whether this approach is appropriate for your specific situation.
Developed by Mesoestetic Pharma Group, Barcelona, Spain. Mesoestetic products are used in clinics across more than 90 countries and are developed with a focus on clinical research, safety, and evidence-based formulation. Dermamelan Intimate is formulated specifically for delicate and intimate skin areas.
Pigmentation concerns this treatment may help with
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from shaving or waxing
Repeated trauma to the skin from hair removal can trigger excess melanin production in the affected area.
Friction-related pigmentation
Chronic friction from clothing, movement, or skin-on-skin contact can lead to localised darkening over time.
Hormonal pigmentation
Changes in hormone levels during pregnancy, menopause, or as a result of hormonal contraception can contribute to pigmentation in intimate areas.
Post-inflammatory pigmentation
Dark marks remaining after skin irritation, ingrown hairs, or inflammation in the treated area.
Generalised uneven tone in sensitive areas
Diffuse uneven skin tone in the bikini line, inner thighs, underarms, or perianal area without a single clear cause.
If you are unsure whether what you are experiencing is suitable for this treatment, come in and talk to us. A consultation is private, there is no obligation to proceed, and your nurse will give you a clear assessment of whether this approach is likely to be appropriate for your situation.

CLIENT RESULTS
What the treatment may achieve
Results vary between individuals and depend on the type and severity of pigmentation, adherence to the home-care protocol, and consistent sun protection where relevant. These are real client results.

POST-INFLAMMATORY PIGMENTATION
Localised pigmentation following repeated shaving. Gradual improvement in skin tone noted across the full treatment protocol. Individual results vary.

HORMONAL PIGMENTATION
Diffuse pigmentation influenced by hormonal changes. Improvement in evenness of skin tone noted following the full in-clinic and home-care protocol. Results differ between individuals.

FRICTION-RELATED DARKENING
Friction-related pigmentation in the inner thigh area. Gradual improvement in skin tone noted across the treatment and home-care phase. Outcomes are not guaranteed.
Individual results may vary. Outcomes depend on the type and severity of pigmentation, adherence to homecare, and individual skin response. These are real client results and are not a guarantee of outcome.
POST-TREATMENT CARE
The home-care phase is part of the treatment
Dermamelan is a protocol, not a single procedure. What happens after the in-clinic treatment is a key factor in your outcome. Your full home-care kit is provided at the time of treatment, and we support you throughout the four-month phase.
Apply structured home-care as directed
Use the Dermamelan Intimate home-care products exactly as instructed. The protocol is specific. Do not substitute or adjust without speaking to us first.
Avoid tight clothing and friction for 48 hours
Loose, breathable clothing is important in the first 48 hours after treatment to minimise friction and irritation in the treated area.
No waxing or shaving for at least 1 week
Avoid any hair removal in the treated area for a minimum of one week post-treatment. Your nurse will advise on timing for your specific situation.
Avoid saunas and heat for 48 hours
Avoid saunas, hot tubs, and high-heat activities for 48 hours after treatment to minimise irritation in the treated area.
SPF 50+ on exposed treated areas
Apply SPF 50+ to any treated areas that are exposed to sunlight, such as the bikini line or underarms. Sun exposure is a key driver of pigmentation recurrence.
Contact us if you have any concerns
If you experience prolonged irritation or anything unexpected, call us on 09 418 0743. We are with you throughout the full protocol.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT
Redness, sensitivity, and mild to moderate peeling in the treated area over the first five to seven days is a normal and expected part of how the treatment works. This is the skin renewing. It is not a complication.
The treated area may feel sensitive during the initial recovery phase. Plan accordingly and avoid activities that involve friction, heat, or prolonged pressure on the area in the first 48 hours.
Improvement develops gradually across the home-care phase and beyond. Most clients begin to notice changes in skin tone during the weeks following treatment, with continued gradual improvement over the following months. Individual response varies significantly and outcomes are not guaranteed.
If you have any concerns at any point during the protocol, call us or come in. We don’t disappear after the in-clinic appointment. We support you throughout.
EXPECTED SIDE EFFECTS
Redness and skin sensitivity
Mild to moderate peeling over 5 to 7 days
Temporary dryness or tightness
Mild discomfort in the treated area
Tightness or discomfort during peeling phase
CLINICAL EVIDENCE
Referenced clinical studies
The following studies are referenced for transparency and to support informed decision-making. They are published clinical research, provided so you can review the evidence base yourself.
Further clinical evidence may be available on request. Results reported in studies may not reflect individual outcomes. Individual results vary.
PUBLISHED STUDY
Topical niacinamide 4% for treatment of axillary hyperpigmentation
Niacinamide 4% | Axillary area
This randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluated topical niacinamide 4% in 24 women aged 19 to 27 with axillary (underarm) hyperpigmentation over 9 weeks. The researchers reported significant colorimetric improvement in the niacinamide-treated axillae compared with placebo, with a good to excellent response in 24% of niacinamide cases versus 6% in placebo. Niacinamide is one of the actives in the Dermamelan home-care protocol.
As reported in this study, niacinamide 4% was associated with improvements in axillary hyperpigmentation. This study does not assess Dermamelan Intimate or Body. Individual outcomes vary.
PUBLISHED STUDY
Kojic acid in the treatment of melasma
Kojic acid 1% | Melasma
This randomised, single-blind comparative study evaluated kojic acid 1% alone and in three combinations across 80 patients in four groups of 20, over 12 weeks. All four arms showed reductions in Melasma Area Severity Index (MASI) scores, supporting kojic acid’s role as a tyrosinase-inhibiting depigmenting agent. The authors declared no conflicts of interest. Kojic acid is one of the actives in the Dermamelan home-care protocol.
As reported in this study, kojic acid was associated with reductions in melasma severity scores. This study does not assess Dermamelan Intimate or Body. Individual outcomes vary.
PUBLISHED STUDY
Systematic review of axillary hyperpigmentation treatments
Topical and light-based actives | Axillary area
This systematic review pooled ten studies on axillary (underarm) hyperpigmentation treatment, searching PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase. The reviewed studies covered topical agents including niacinamide, desonide, glycolic acid, and several plant-derived actives, alongside Q-switched Nd:YAG laser and IPL. The reviewers concluded that several topical actives can produce measurable reductions in axillary pigmentation. The authors declared no conflicts of interest.
As reported in this review, several topical depigmenting actives can reduce axillary hyperpigmentation. This review does not assess Dermamelan Intimate or Body. Individual outcomes vary.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
Anything not answered here, come in and ask us directly.
Intimate area pigmentation has a number of possible causes including repeated friction from clothing or movement, post-inflammatory responses from shaving, waxing, or ingrown hairs, hormonal changes during pregnancy, menopause, or from hormonal contraception, and simple genetic predisposition. Understanding the likely cause is part of the consultation assessment, as this can influence the treatment approach and what maintenance may be needed long term.
Dermamelan Intimate is developed by Mesoestetic specifically for delicate and sensitive skin areas. The formulation is designed to support depigmentation while aiming to maintain skin integrity in areas that require a particularly gentle approach. Suitability for your specific skin and situation is assessed at your consultation before any treatment is recommended.
Redness, sensitivity, and mild to moderate peeling in the treated area over the first five to seven days is a normal part of the treatment process. Most clients continue normal daily activities during this period, though the area may feel sensitive. Loose, comfortable clothing is advisable during the initial recovery phase. Your nurse will provide detailed aftercare guidance at the time of treatment.
Outcomes develop gradually across the home-care phase and in the weeks and months following treatment. Some clients begin to notice changes during the home-care phase itself. Individual response varies significantly. Outcomes are not guaranteed and will differ between individuals depending on the cause and severity of pigmentation, skin type, and adherence to the home-care protocol.
With appropriate home care and maintenance, outcomes may be sustained for an extended period. However, ongoing factors such as hormonal changes, friction, and sun exposure can influence pigmentation over time. Your nurse may recommend occasional maintenance or ongoing pigment-regulating skincare depending on your individual response and the underlying cause of your pigmentation.
Yes. Every consultation and treatment session for Dermamelan Intimate is conducted in a private room with a Registered Nurse. Your information and concerns are kept confidential as a matter of course. Many clients feel apprehensive about raising this concern for the first time.
