CRYOPEN CRYOTHERAPY | BIRKENHEAD, AUCKLAND
If a skin lesion is bothering you, it’s usually straightforward to address.
Skin tags, cherry angiomas, sunspots, and similar benign skin lesions are among the most common cosmetic concerns we see. They’re not a health risk, but they can affect how you feel about your skin. CryoPen cryotherapy is a fast, precise treatment that uses extreme cold to address these lesions without surgery, significant downtime, or discomfort for most clients. Each lesion takes only a few minutes. At Jay’s Medispa in Birkenhead, all treatments are assessed and performed by a Registered Nurse.

HOW CRYOPEN CRYOTHERAPY WORKS
Precise cold, applied directly to the lesion.
CryoPen delivers a fine, controlled jet of nitrous oxide at extremely low temperatures directly onto the skin lesion. The extreme cold destroys the cells within the lesion while targeting only the affected tissue. The surrounding skin is not affected when the treatment is applied correctly.
After treatment, the lesion typically forms a small blister or crust before naturally falling away over one to two weeks. The skin beneath generally heals cleanly, though individual healing varies.
Before any treatment, your Registered Nurse will assess the lesion to confirm it is suitable for cryotherapy. Not all skin lesions are appropriate for this treatment, and some require a doctor’s assessment before proceeding. This is always discussed before treatment begins.
We use CryoPen, a precision cryotherapy device designed for controlled, targeted treatment of benign skin lesions. Treatment is only performed following a clinical assessment by a Registered Nurse.

POST-TREATMENT CARE
Looking after the area after cryotherapy
The treated area will go through a natural healing process over the one to two weeks following treatment. Following these guidelines supports clean healing and reduces the risk of complications.
Keep the area clean
Gently cleanse the treated area daily. Avoid applying harsh products or makeup directly over the treated site.
Do not scratch or pick
Do not scratch, rub, or pick at the treatment site. Allow the lesion to resolve naturally to minimise the risk of scarring or infection.
Sun protection
Apply broad-spectrum SPF to the treated area to reduce the risk of pigmentation changes as the skin heals. This is particularly important on the face.
Moisturise if dry
A gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser can be applied to the area if it feels dry or tight during the healing process.
Monitor for unexpected changes
Watch the site for signs of infection including increasing redness, warmth, or discharge. Contact us or your GP if you are concerned.
Contact us with any concerns
If anything feels unexpected after treatment, call us on 09 418 0743. We are happy to advise.
WHAT TO EXPECT AS THE LESSION HEALS
Following cryotherapy, the treated area will typically form a small blister or crust within a day or two. This is a normal part of the healing process. Over the following one to two weeks, the treated tissue will gradually fall away naturally.
Some temporary redness, mild swelling, or darkening at the treatment site is expected. This is not a sign that something has gone wrong. Do not attempt to remove the crust or blister. Allow it to resolve naturally.
Most lesions resolve cleanly following a single session. Larger or more persistent lesions may require a follow-up appointment, which your nurse will advise at the time of treatment.
EXPECTED SIDE EFFECTS
Redness and mild swelling at the treatment site
Small blister or crust forming over 1 to 2 days
Temporary darkening before the lesion falls away
Brief stinging sensation during treatment
Temporary changes in pigmentation at the site (usually resolves)
RESULTS DSICLAMER
Results from cryotherapy vary depending on the lesion type, size, depth, and individual healing response. Outcomes are not guaranteed and individual results will differ. Some lesions may require more than one treatment session. Treatment is only performed following a clinical assessment by a Registered Nurse, and certain lesions may require a doctor’s assessment before proceeding.
CLINICAL EVIDENCE
Cryotherapy is a well-established clinical technique with a broad evidence base in dermatology for the management of benign skin lesions. Published clinical evidence supporting its use is available on request. Outcomes reported in clinical literature may not reflect individual results.

CryoPen is a precision cryotherapy device that delivers a fine jet of nitrous oxide at extremely low temperatures directly onto skin lesions. The cold destroys the cells within the lesion while targeting only the affected tissue, leaving the surrounding skin unaffected when applied correctly. Each lesion takes only a few minutes to treat.
Most lesions form a small blister or crust within one to two days and then resolve naturally over one to two weeks as the treated tissue breaks down. Some larger or more persistent lesions may take longer or require a follow-up session. Your nurse will advise at your appointment.
Most clients experience a brief stinging or cold sensation during treatment that passes within seconds. No local anaesthetic is required for most lesions. The sensation is generally well tolerated. If you have concerns about discomfort, speak to your nurse before treatment begins.
Scarring following cryotherapy is uncommon but possible, particularly for deeper lesions. Temporary changes in skin pigmentation at the treatment site can also occur as the skin heals. These are discussed at your assessment before treatment proceeds so you have a realistic understanding of the possible outcomes for your specific lesion.
Most lesions are addressed in a single session. Larger, thicker, or more persistent lesions may require a follow-up treatment. Your nurse will give you an honest assessment at your appointment of whether one session is likely to be sufficient for your specific lesion.
Cryotherapy at Jay’s Medispa in Birkenhead is $100 per appointment, which includes up to five lesions. Each additional lesion after the first five is $20. Larger or unusual lesions are quoted at consultation before any treatment proceeds. All pricing is confirmed before your appointment begins.
Jay’s Medispa reserves the right to request a doctor’s assessment prior to treatment for certain lesions. This applies to lesions that appear atypical, have changed recently, or fall outside the criteria for straightforward cryotherapy. Your nurse will assess the lesion at your appointment and advise if a referral is needed before proceeding. This is a clinical safety step, not an obstacle to treatment.
